SSH for AI assistants
Your AI can already write the command. Hawser lets it run the command: on your servers, over your SSH, with your passwords and key passphrases supplied for it and never shown to it.
One program for Linux, macOS and Windows. Works with Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, VS Code and any other MCP client.
youWhy did last night's deploy on web1 fail?
aissh_exec web1 · tail -n 4 /var/log/deploy.log 02:14:07 migrate: applying 0042_add_index 02:14:09 migrate: lock wait timeout exceeded 02:14:09 deploy: rolling back exit status 0
aiThe migration that adds an index timed out waiting for a lock at 02:14, and the deploy rolled itself back. Something was holding the table. Want me to look at what was running then?
An example of a conversation. The login to web1 used the password you stored; the AI never saw it.
A hawser is the heavy line that ties a ship to the dock. This one ties your AI assistant to the machines it needs to work on. It is a Model Context Protocol server: a small program your AI client starts, which gives the AI tools for SSH.
You store what your hosts ask for once, in your system's credential store. Hawser answers the prompts. The AI has no tool that reads, sets or changes a secret, and none that answers a host-key question.
A session is a tmux session on the host. It keeps its directory, its environment and whatever is running, through a dropped connection or the end of the conversation. You can attach and watch.
Allow and deny lists for hosts, a folder that local files must stay inside, and, if you turn it on, a log of every call and every secret supplied, without the secret. The AI has no tool that changes any of it.
The tools. ssh_exec · ssh_exec_each · ssh_run_script · ssh_hosts · ssh_check · ssh_session_open · ssh_session_run · ssh_session_read · ssh_session_send · ssh_session_list · ssh_session_close · ssh_read_file · ssh_write_file · ssh_upload · ssh_download · ssh_sync · ssh_tunnel_open · ssh_tunnel_close · ssh_copy_id · ssh_agent_add · ssh_doctor · ssh_lock
A plan is a number of connections open at once. Every plan has every tool, on as many as five of your machines, and starts with 14 days free.

What counts as a connection. A session, from when it is opened until it is closed. A tunnel, while it is open. Any other command or copy, while it runs. Work inside an open session counts no more. At the limit, the AI is told what is holding the connections so it can close one.
Pick a plan and make an account. Nothing is charged for the first 14 days, and you can cancel before then.
We send you hawser for your system. Run hawser install. It needs the OpenSSH client, which every current system has.
Run hawser login and approve the machine in your browser. Then tell your AI client about it: hawser mcp-config prints the settings.
Ask about a plan with more than 25 connections, or anything else. Say which plan, or roughly how many connections you need, and we'll reply to the address you give, usually within a working day.
